Project Overview

tripee is an XR metaverse trip plan platform that strives to connect the excitement of travel from the planning stage to the actual journey. Users collect various trip information while experiencing the metaverse and then upload this information from both the metaverse and mobile devices to collaboratively edit travel plans. Once the plan is complete, they can enjoy their travels by accessing it on their mobile devices.

Insight

We discovered that 1. anticipation for travel tends to decrease the most during the planning stage. Therefore, we decided to design the entire experience from the planning phase to the actual trip, with a particular emphasis on the travel planning aspect.
And we realized 2. the importance of connecting the travel planning with the actual trip.

We analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of four existing platforms for travel planning to derive benchmarking points.
‍
However, since all are mobile and web-based services, we faced the challenge of how to apply them in XR technology.

After basic survey and competitor analysis, we conducted in-depth interviews of 23 people focusing on the process of planning the trip and the specific experiences they had in the process.

‍From the in-depth interviews, we organized the information using affinity diagrams to identify pain points and key features.

The excitement of the theme park

We tried to  ideate various concepts that could go well with travel.
Then, we found that both travel and amusement parks make people feel excited.
And we finally decided to do the theme park concept because the characteristics of the theme park where you can experience various attractions and travel where you can choose various travel destinations are similar.

Hopee

Hopee, balloon shaped companion, represents user’s trip type.  It helps users to find appropriate information in the ‘square’. Also, it collects the selected trip information as badges.

Badges

Selected trip information is saved as 4 types of badges : Landmark, activity, food and accommodation. Users can check the content, and collect them to make a trip plan.

Communicate

Talk freely with other users. Share best locations, foods, tips and etc. Be close friends with those who have the same hopee, learn and share more about your taste.

Experience

Immersively experience popular locations or landmarks while on a ride. Pass through the landmarks to see what others reccommend. Simply sit and enjoy the destinations.

Collect

View and collect various information as badges. Go through reviews, images, etc. Add the information to your list and it will turn into badges that hopee will carry along.

Select Destination

Poke the globe to set the target country for your trip.Selected country will be created into a 3d stylized map with some basic information about the trip.

Explore Information

Hover to see simple information about the badge. Pinch or throw to share detailed information with the crew. Move the badges out of the map to exclude.

Preview Route

Starting from the airport, the optimized route shows up based on the badges in map. Check various information such as budget, number of steps, weather, airline ticket.

Check the Plan

Get plans made by VR through mobile.
Users can check information about places organized by category and date.

AR Navigate / Check Similar Places

Enjoy the trip according to your plan. Users can easily find places through AR navigation, and can also get recommendations for similar places around them.
